As a crucial witness to the “biggest scandal” early-nineteenth-century Fairmount has seen, lives hang on the balance of Chester Carter’s true and complete testimony.
Chester is an unambitious—or independent-minded—apprentice to Mr. Tate of Tate’s Banking and Loans when he witnesses a bank robbery and finds himself serving as Sheriff Hoogkirk’s justice-seeking assistant. His newfound role in law enforcement introduces him to gambling, carousing, and horse racing at the town’s pleasure gardens. Chester is drawn to the excitement of horse racing at the expense of his courtship and professional career. When an acquaintance from the racetrack is implicated in the robberies, Chester worries he must choose between truth and justice.
Shadows in the Pleasure Gardens weaves together timeless themes, including the personal search for purpose and fulfillment, pressure to conform to societal expectations, corruption of the powerful, and how horses help us escape it all, if only for a bit.

The innocently charming William “Plumb” Jenkins, only more dutiful than Patriotic, acquiesces to his father’s wishes that he should study in Scotland rather than enlist in the Continental Army as the American Revolution unfolds around his hometown in Boston. Plumb sets sail reluctantly, but finds that adventure, duty, and honor are not unique to American soil. When Plumb finally returns to Boston, he finds his native land still under attack, and at last takes up arms in its defense. Soldiering presents new opportunity for trials, wanderings, and sufferings, which Plumb faithfully, if humorously, narrates for the benefit of his family back home.
A Soldier’s Saga for Home and Hearth is a story of courage and discovery wherein Plumb realizes his purpose through adventure, hardship, and the camaraderie of his fellow man.

A tale of the town of Fredericksville’s preparation for the forcasted “foke,” a fog of smoke, that is.

Three brothers and their parents reunite at sea on a quest to save the stolen horses of the Prince of Pelie.
