On the Road

This is beautifully-written book that never gets anywhere, despite the characters perpetually going somewhere in great haste. It could be so interesting, with all there is to see on the road. Unfortunately, the characters are not particularly interesting because they never grow up. Dean could be an interesting character, but once we figured out he was crazy, he kept being crazy in the same way. Something I did appreciate was the 1949 Hudson Commodore that seats 4 across in the front. Too bad they ruined it, as they did with everything else, including their lives and the lives of all the foolish women who put up with them at various points in the novel.
